Green Claims Title

AURORA, Colo. (April 13) – It wasn't a pretty finish, but Central Oklahoma's Andrew Green had plenty of cushion to make up it in capturing his first collegiate title here Tuesday at the Air Force Invitational.

The sophomore standout finished triple bogey-double bogey in shooting a final-round 80 at the 7,301-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Golf Course, but still posted a three-stroke victory in finishing at one-under-par 215.

The Bronchos struggled to a 312 as a team in sliding from third to fifth in the final team standings with a 912 total.  Fort Lewis won the eight-team tournament at 885, two shots ahead of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

Green blistered the course Monday with rounds of 67-68 to open up a big seven-shot lead and he was never in danger of giving that up Tuesday, despite the late struggles.  Green has finished second, third and first in his last three tournaments.

“Andrew didn't have his best day and he obviously didn't finish the way he wanted, but he had a great tournament and is a very deserving champion,” UCO coach Dax Johnston said.  “The sky's the limit for that young man, he's just incredibly talented and continues to work hard at getting better.”

Zach Cleland had UCO's best round Tuesday with a one-over-par 73, while Trevor Stafford had a 79 as the only other player to break 80.  Dillon Rust came in with an 80 and Colin Morgan shot 83.

The Bronchos conclude the regular season next week, going to Thackerville, Okla. for the Lone Star Conference Championships that will be held Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at Winstar Golf Course.
