GRANBURY, Texas (April 12) – Central Oklahoma put three players in the 70s and shot its best score of the spring to finish first-day play in the Tarleton State/Coca-Cola Classic in sixth place.

The Bronchos came in at 310 on the 6,216-yard, par-72 Harbor Lakes Golf Club, their best score since carding a 304 on the second day of the Cheddar's/UCO Classic back in early October.

Host Tarleton State fired a 296 to take a one-shot lead over Grand Canyon heading into Tuesday's final round.  Angelo State is third in the 18-team tournament at 302, followed by Northeastern State (304), Midwestern State (305) and UCO.

Cassy Knight was a model of consistency to lead the Bronchos Monday, shooting consecutive 37s in tying her low score of the year with a two-over-par 74 to stand seventh in the individual race.

Emily Leahey went 39-37 in shooting a season-best 76 and Erica Bensch used a four-birdie barrage to rally for a back-nine 34 after an opening 44 in finishing with a 78.  Raelynn Farthing also overcame a slow start in shooting 44-38 for an 82, while Maria Jimenez added an 85.

“We got off to a terrible start, but did a nice bouncing back,” UCO coach Michael Bond said.  “It was one of our better rounds of the year and we need to follow it up with another one tomorrow.”
