AURORA, Colo. (April 12) – Andrew Green opened up a commanding lead in the individual race to lead Central Oklahoma to a third-place standing on the first day of the Air Force Invitational here Monday.
Green was sensational all day, firing rounds of 67-68 on the 7,301-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Golf Course as the Bronchos shot 298-302 for a 600 total. Fort Lewis leads the nine-team tournament at 578, followed by Colorado-Colorado Springs (583) and UCO.
Final-round play in the 54-hole tournament begins at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Green, who has finished second and third in the last two tournaments, owns a dominating seven-shot lead in the medalist race at nine-under-par 135. The sophomore standout had 12 birdies and one eagle on the day to go along with 18 pars and five bogeys.
“Andrew was just phenomenal today, he had everything working and it was a sight to see,” UCO coach Dax Johnston said. “He's worked hard on his game this spring and it's really started to show the last few weeks.”
The rest of the UCO team struggled Monday. Dillon Rust had rounds of 75-78, while Colin Morgan shot 78-77, Trevor Stafford 78-80 and Zach Cleland 80-79.
