First-Round Pairings Set

OMAHA, Neb. (March 8) -- First-round pairings are set for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships that will unfold here Friday, with No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma sending six individuals to the two-day tournament.

Opening-round action begins at 11 a.m. Friday at Sapp Fieldhouse, followed by the quarterfinals and first two rounds of consolations at 6 p.m. The tournament resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday with the semifinals and completion of all consolation matches and the championship finals will be at 7 p.m.

UCO's qualifiers are eighth-ranked 133-pounder Scott Berens, 165-pounder Derrick Adkins, 174-pounder Cody Rowell, 184-pounder Tanner Keck, sixth-ranked 197-pounder Jarrett Edison and third-ranked heavyweight Dustin Finn.

Berens, Adkins, Edison and Finn all qualified with runner-up finishes at the Super Regional II Tournament on Feb. 28 in Warrensburg, Mo., while Rowell and Keck both took fourth. The top-four placers at each weight from each of the four regionals advanced to the national tournament.

Berens will take on Chadron State's Ryan Fillingame in Friday's first round, while Adkins goes against Augustana's Gavin Nelson, Rowell faces No. 3-ranked J.J. Davis of North Carolina-Pembroke, Keck meets top-rated Charlie Pipher of Western State, Edison takes on Northern State's Matthew Meuleners and Finn tangles with Kutztown's Kevin Bolinsky.

UCO will also have former greats Jerry Best, Mark Cunningham and Brian Melchiori inducted into the NCAA Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame during a banquet Thursday night.
