WEATHERFORD, Okla. (March 31) –
Kacie Edwards continued her hot hitting streak with a home run that lifted Central Oklahoma to a narrow first-game victory and Molly Shivers keyed a second-game rout as Central Oklahoma swept a Lone Star Conference North Division doubleheader from Southwestern Oklahoma here Wednesday.

Edwards' solo homer broke a 6-6 tie and gave UCO a 7-6 win in the opener, while Shivers stole home to snap a 9-9 deadlock and later added a two-run single in an eight-run seventh inning that carried the Bronchos to a 17-9 triumph in the nightcap.

UCO, which has won eight of its last nine games, improved to 22-10 overall and 7-3 in the LSC North.  The two teams meet for another league twinbill at 2 p.m. Friday in Edmond.

“It was a tough day with the way the wind was blowing, but we came up with some big hits in key situations and got out of here with two good wins,” UCO coach Genny Stidham said.  “We've got some girls who really swinging the bats well right now and hopefully we can keep that going.”

The Bronchos had 27 hits on the day, setting season hits for hits (17) and runs in the second-game victory.  Edwards led the way, going 6-for-8 with five doubles, a homer and six RBI in the two games.

UCO jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead in the opener and was up 5-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, but the Bulldogs tied it with three runs in the bottom of that frame.

Edwards, named LSC North Division Hitter of the Week on Tuesday for her performance in last weekend's LSC Crossover Tournament, then hit a one-out homer in the top of the seventh to put the Bronchos on top 6-5 and Rachael Steverson put SWOSU down in order in the bottom of the inning to nail down the win.

Edwards went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and the game-winning homer, while Kelsey Tiger, Megan Bentley and Brittany Weaver had two hits apiece.

UCO appeared in control most of the way in the nightcap, leading 4-1 after three innings and expanding that to 7-1 in the top of the fourth as Brittany Geter had a two-run homer.  But the Bulldogs came back with four runs in their next at bat to get close and they tied it at 9-9 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Bronchos broke it open in the top of the seventh, scoring eight runs on four hits and four errors.

Shivers started the rally with a one-out single before stealing second, going to third on an error and stealing home with the go-ahead run. Bentley had an RBI single,  Pebbles Paxson had a two-run double and Shivers a two-run single before the inning was over as UCO took control.

Shivers then came on to put SWOSU down in the bottom of the seventh to earn the pitching win as well, improving to 12-6.

Edwards went 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI to lead UCO's 17-hit attack.  Bentley and Shivers also had three hits, while Geter drove in four runs with a pair of hits.
