WICHTA FALLS, Texas (March 22) – Dillon Rust salvaged an opening-round 74 with a late rally and followed with a one-under-par 70 in the afternoon to propel Central Oklahoma to a tie for fourth after the first day of the Midwestern State Invitational here Monday.

The Bronchos had rounds of 298-297 to complete two rounds with a 595 total at the 6,917-yard, par-71 Wichita Falls Country Club heading into Tuesday's final round.

Oklahoma City has a commanding 12-shot lead at 569, with Dallas Baptist (581) second and Central Missouri (586) third. UCO and the host Mustangs are tied for fourth in the 18-team field.

“We were a little inconsistent, but overall it wasn't a bad day,” UCO coach Dax Johnston said.  “Dillon did a great job saving his morning round and that gave him a big boost for the afternoon.”

Rust was seven-over with four holes to play in the morning round before finishing birdie-birdie-eagle-par for a three-over 74 and he continued that solid play in the afternoon with the 71 that has him tied for sixth in the individual standings at 144.

Andrew Green had rounds of 70-80=150, while Zach Cleland shot 79-73=152 and Matt Charleson 84-74=158.

Colin Morgan had a morning 75, but had to be briefly hospitalized after suffering heat exhaustion and dehydration midway through the afternoon round. He will return to the course for Tuesday's final round.
