WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 16) –
Central Oklahoma couldn’t take advantage of some good scoring opportunities in a close second-game loss and dropped a Lone Star Conference North Division doubleheader to No. 8-ranked Midwestern State here Tuesday.

The Bronchos, who split two games with MSU Monday in Edmond, lost the opener 7-3 before falling 1-0 in the nightcap.  UCO had eight hits in the second game loss and left seven runners on base, including four in scoring position.

“We had our chances in the second game and didn’t come up with the big hit when we needed it,” head coach Genny Stidham said.  “It was disappointing, but we’re a young team that’s getting better.”

UCO fell to 14-8 on the year and 5-3 in the LSC North, while the Mustangs improved to 24-4 and 7-1.

Kacie Edwards and Brittany Weaver had two hits apiece for the Bronchos in the second game that saw MSU score the lone run in the fourth inning.  Rachael Steverson took the tough-luck loss, giving up six hits and three walks while striking out five.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings of the first game, with UCO’s three runs not enough to make up that big early deficit.

The Bronchos tried to get back in the game with two runs in the fifth as Kayce Raines had a sacrifice fly and Molly Shivers an RBI single, but UCO failed to do more damage and left the bases loaded.

UCO scored its final run in the sixth on an error.

Shivers, Brittany Geter and Ashley Noles had two hits each for the Bronchos.

UCO returns to action Saturday, hosting Tarleton State for a doubleheader.
