Bronchos Win Again

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 9) – Streaking Central Oklahoma got a tie-breaking singles win from Rose Cabato and claimed a 5-4 Lone Star Conference victory over Midwestern State here Tuesday to stretch its winning streak to seven straight.

The No. 26-ranked Bronchos overcame a 2-1 deficit following doubles play by winning four of the six singles bouts, with Cabato's win in the final match breaking a 4-4 deadlock against the No. 38-rated Mustangs.

UCO improved to 7-1 on the year and 1-0 in the league with its second straight 5-4 win.  The Bronchos don't return to action until going to Denver, Colo. March 18-20 for four matches.

“I think Midwestern played really good and we were fighting a little bit of fatigue, but I was proud of my girls for stepping up in the singles matches,” said head coach Natalya Smith, whose team traveled to Dallas last Saturday for two matches.  “It's good to get that first conference win and we're going to keep working hard.”

Cabato and Anto Rossini teamed up for a crucial 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles to give UCO a much-needed point and the Bronchos then used their singles superiority to pull out the win.

Eli Abramovic, Lacy Caldwell and Virginie Rodriguez all won straight set matches to tie the match and set the stage for Cabato, who responded with a 6-3, 6-0 rout to complete the comeback.
