Soccer Signs Four

Mike Cook
EDMOND (Feb. 4) – Perennial power Central Oklahoma has signed four soccer standouts to national letters of intent, head coach Mike Cook announced Thursday.

Set to join the Bronchos in 2010 is midfielder Sherri Collins of Edmond North High School, forward Kate Foran of Wichita Falls (Texas) High School, midfielder/forward Amanda Franklyn of Adair High School and fullback Caitlin Phillips of Claremore High School.

“Sherri is a solid addition to a tradition of great midfielders we have here at UCO,” said Cook of Collins, an All-Region pick as a junior last year.   “She's a feisty, hard-working player who brings some more toughness to the midfield and she could made an immediate impact.”

Foran scored 51 goals and added 38 assists in 86 career games as a two-time All-District pick at Wichita Falls, earning district MVP honors in 2009 in addition to being a regional qualifier in cross country and track.

“Kate is a strong, fast, athletic forward who has the ability to put defenders under a lot of pressure,” Cook said.   “She should compete for playing time right away.”

Franklyn was a multi-sport standout at Adair.

“Amanda is a very athletic and versatile player,” Cook said.  “She could strengthen several areas and will push for playing time from the start.”

Phillips is expected to be a defensive mainstay after earning All-District honors at Claremore last year.

“Caitlin is a very smart and composed defender who should really help fill the void left by All-American Alli Miller,” Cook said.  “She will add stability to the defense and can help us right away.”

The Bronchos are coming off a 14-6-3 season that saw them capture the Lone Star Conference Tournament title and advance to the NCAA Division II national tournament for the seventh time in 10 years.
