Bronchos Bounce SNU

OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 26) – Central Oklahoma overcame tough playing conditions and NAIA rival Southern Nazarene in claiming a 7-2 win over the Crimson Storm Thursday afternoon at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

The Bronchos won two of the three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead and then dominated singles play by winning five of those six bouts to roll to their second straight win of the spring season.

Lacy Caldwell bounced back from a 6-3 first-set loss with 6-4, 7-6 wins at No. 4 singles, with UCO also getting straight-set wins from Julia Shviadok, Eli Abramovic, Virginie Rodriguez and Lindsey Sweetgall.

Shviadok and Abramovic teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while Anto Rossini and Meredith Marney rolled to an 8-1 rout at No. 3.

“The girls stayed mentally strong in the cold and wind and it was a great win for us,” UCO coach Natalya Smith said.  “We focused on sticking to basic tactics and used this weather to become even better players.  Hopefully we will be able to roll this momentum into Saturday's matches.”

The Bronchos travel to St. Joseph, Mo. Saturday to take on regional rivals Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western.
