EDMOND (Feb. 13) –
A game-long zone defense that dared Central Oklahoma to fire away from long range backfired on Cameron Saturday night at Hamilton Field House as the streaking Bronchos shot their way to a school record 15th straight win.

UCO set season highs for 3-pointers made (18) and attempted (44) in brushing aside the Aggies 80-64 to break the previous mark of 14 consecutive wins that was set by the 1963-64 team.

Six players had at least two treys for the Bronchos, who made 10 long-range shots in opening up a 41-26 halftime lead and added eight more in the final 20 minutes to complete the wire-to-wire rout.

UCO improved to 19-4 on the year and stayed atop the Lone Star Conference North Division standings at 8-0.

“We're a good 3-point shooting team and we did a great job taking what they gave us tonight,” said head coach Terry Evans, whose team is making an LSC-best 10.0 3-pointers per game.   “We moved the ball around, found the open shots and knocked a lot of them down.  It's always nice to break a school record, but we just want to stay focused on each game and not look ahead.”

Tyler Phillips led six players in double figures, hitting five treys in finishing with a game-high 17 points.  Dauntae Williams had three 3-pointers in scoring 15 points while adding four assists and three steals, with Chris Rhymes making three shots from the arc in a 12-point outing.

Shane Carroll had three treys in scoring 11 points, Carl Curry had 11 points and made two 3-pointers after entering the game with one for the season and Eric Cazenave finished with two long-range bombs and 10 points.

The game was close in the early going and Cameron was within three at 24-21 midway through the opening half when the Bronchos took control with a 17-3 run.

Curry and Williams each had a pair of 3-pointers in that spurt to push UCO's advantage to 17 (41-24) late in the half and the Bronchos settled for a 41-26 advantage at intermission.

The Aggies were within 13 (44-31) early in the second half when Phillips exploded, hitting three 3-point daggers – two from the corner – in a two-minute span to quickly stretch the lead to 53-31. A Rhymes free throw and Carroll layup made it 56-31 with 13:30 remaining and UCO coasted in from there.

The Bronchos return to action Wednesday, hosting Texas A&M-Commerce in an 8 p.m. contest.
