EDMOND (Jan. 5) -- Jordan Stark scored five of her team-high 16 points in the first 29 seconds and Central Oklahoma seized control early en route to a 100-91 drubbing of Texas A&M-Kingsville Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.
It was the first home game of the season for the Bronchos, who wasted little time in jumping on the Javelinas and never trailed in winning for the fourth straight time. UCO improved to 8-3 while dropping TAMUK to 10-3.
Stark had a layup 13 seconds into the contest and followed a TAMUK miss with a 3-pointer from the top of the key to stake the Bronchos to a quick 5-0 lead. UCO pushed its cushion to 20 (45-25) late in the opening half, led 52-36 at intermission and then turned back a couple of TAMUK rallies in the final 15 minutes to clinch its eighth straight home win.
"We got off to a great start and played really well," UCO coach #Guy Hardaker said. "We did a good job running our offense and got a lot of production from our bench in beating a really good team."
The Bronchos had 13 steals, got 49 points from the bench, made a season-high 12 3-pointers and put six players in double figures in posting their highest-scoring game of the season.
Stark had four 3-pointers in her 16-point outing, Rose Anderson made 5-of-6 shots with three treys in scoring 14 points while adding four assists and four steals and Savannah Hamilton was 5-of-6 from the field in a 14-point outing off the bench. UCO also got 13 points from Ashley Beckley, 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds from Alyssa Fuxa and 11 points from Courtney Allen.
Stark's early outburst and three points by Anderson gave the Bronchos an 8-0 lead not even two minutes into the game and it grew to double digits at 14-4 by the 16:51 mark on another Stark 3-pointer.
UCO continued to pull away and its first-half lead peaked at 20 when Beckley made a pair of free throws to make it 45-25 with 4:27 left before the Bronchos settled for a 16-point advantage (52-36) at the break.
TAMUK, the highest-scoring team in the league with an 85.6 average entering the contest, also made 12 treys in the game and stayed within striking range before closing the deficit to six at 80-74 with 5:16 left to play.
Allen answered with a 3-pointer to push UCO's lead back to nine, Fuxa soon scored four straight points to make it a 12-point game at 90-78 with 3:19 left and the Bronchos coasted in from there.
UCO continues a three-game homestand Thursday, hosting Eastern New Mexico at 6 p.m.
