EDMOND (Jan. 5) –
All five starters scored in double figures and streaking Central Oklahoma opened a three-game homestand with an 89-73 thumping of Texas A&M-Kingsville Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos never trailed after bolting to a 7-0 lead and were barely tested in winning for the fifth straight time. UCO moved to 9-4 on the season, while the Javelinas – who were giving up just 63.2 points a game – fell to 10-3.

“We wanted to force the tempo early in the game and did a great job of doing just that,”  said head coach Terry Evans, who won his 150th game in improving to 150-72 in his eighth year at UCO.  “We didn't shoot the ball very well from outside, but we did a lot of good things and showed a lot of balance.”

Chris Rhymes scored 16 points to pace the Bronchos, while Dauntae Williams nearly had a triple-double with 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.  Tyler Phillips had 15 points and eight boards, Eric Cazenave contributed 12 points, seven assists and four steals and Brent Friday added 12 points in rounding out the starting five, with Shane Carroll chipping in 13 points off the bench.

Rhymes' 3-pointer from the corner 12 seconds into the contest ignited UCO's opening 7-0 run and the lead reached 11 (17-6) on a Chris McCleary layup at the 13:10 mark.

UCO pushed the lead to 21 (34-13) on a Phillips layup with 7:59 remaining and it was a 17-point spread (47-30) at halftime.

TAMUK scored the first six points of the second half to cut the deficit to 47-36, but Cazenave ended that spurt with a layup and the Bronchos started to pull away again.  The lead peaked at 25 on a Carroll 3-pointer that ended a 9-0 run and made it 69-44 with 9:32 left.

The Javelins got the lead back down to 12 in the final three minutes, but never really threatened as UCO cruised in with its 29th win in its last 31 home games.

The Bronchos continue their homestand Thursday, taking on Eastern New Mexico at 8 p.m.
