EDMOND (Jan. 20) –
Keith Marks and Eric Cazenave keyed an early 3-point barrage that put Central Oklahoma in the driver's seat and the streaking Bronchos went on to a 96-76 pasting of Southwestern Oklahoma Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House.

UCO's first six baskets all came from beyond the arc – with Marks and Cazenave hitting two apiece – as the Bronchos raced to an 18-6 lead five minutes into the contest en route to winning for the 10th consecutive time.

It was also the sixth straight win by at least 16 points for UCO, which improved to 14-4 overall and 3-0 in the Lone Star Conference North Division.

“They gave us some open looks to start the game and we were knocking our shots down,” UCO coach Terry Evans said.   “It was great to get off to a start like that and we just took care of business.”

The Bronchos shot 52.4 percent (33-of-63) from the field and ended up tying a season-high with 14 3-pointers while shooting 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from long range.  That more than made up for a 53.3-percent (16-of-30) effort from the free throw line and UCO also had just nine turnovers.

It was another balanced attack for the Bronchos, with six players scoring between 10-18 points in the contest.

Cazenave finished with four 3-pointers in scoring a team-high 18 points while adding four steals and three assists.  Dauntae Williams had 15 points, seven assists and three steals, with Tyler Phillips (11), Brent Friday (11), Blake Livingston (10) and Shane Carroll (10) also scoring in double figures.  Marks ended with eight points.

SWOSU scored the opening bucket to take a 2-0 lead, but Marks drilled a 3-pointer from the corner to put UCO in front for good seconds later.  Treys by Cazenave and Marks quickly made it 9-2, with Phillips, Cazenave and Robert Lee all hitting long-range buckets in a two-minute span to up the lead to 18-6.

The lead grew to 17 (25-8) at the 12:41 mark on a Williams 3-pointer and it was a 20-point cushion (39-19) at 5:06 following a Williams steal and layup.

The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 14 at 48-34 by intermission and scored the first four points of the second half to make it 48-38.   UCO quickly squelched any comeback hopes, ripping off eight unanswered points behind a Cazenave layup, a Friday three-point play and a Cazenave 3-pointer to push the lead back to 18 (56-38) with 17:51 remaining.

SWOSU got no closer than 12 the rest of the way as the Bronchos closed out their 33rd win in the last 35 home games.

UCO hits the road for its next two league games, going to Cameron Saturday afternoon and to Texas A&M-Commerce next Wednesday.
