AMARILLO, Texas (Sept. 29) -- Raelynn Farthing fired a final-round 75 to lead a trio of Central Oklahoma players in the 70s as the Bronchos rallied for an impressive runner-up showing at the wind-blown Lady Buff Stampede here Tuesday.
UCO knocked 18 shots off their first-round score and had the lowest round of the day by nine strokes in coming in with a 311 despite wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour at the par-72 La Paloma Golf Club. The Bronchos finished the 16-team, 36-hole tournament with a 640 total, five shots behind winner Tarleton State. Click here for tournament results.
Farthing led UCO's second-day charge as she trimmed 12 strokes off her first-day score with the three-over-par effort. The Bronchos also got 77s from Erica Bensch and Maria Jimenez, while Cassy Knight shot 82 and Mary Sue Sample 89
Bensch and Jimenez tied for third in the individual standings with 158 totals, two shots behind the champion, while Farthing and Knight tied for 12th.
"I'm obviously very proud of the way we played today," UCO coach Michael Bond said. "To shoot the low round by nine shots proves we didn't make a lot of mistakes. It was a mental test because of the windy conditions and the girls answered the bell.
"Hopefully this will carry over to our home tournament next week."
The Bronchos return to action next Monday and Tuesday at the UCO Broncho Classic, which will be held at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
