TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 25) -- Central Oklahoma's Julia Shviadok won her first two matches in the singles portion of the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Tennis Championships here Friday.
Three of UCO's four singles players won their first-round matches, with Shviadok the lone one to advance into the third round of the 64-player bracket.
Shviadok, an All-Lone Star Conference selection in both singles and doubles as a freshman last year, entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed and rolled past Jenna Hendrickson of Southwest Baptist 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. She was equally as impressive in the second round with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph.
Shviadok was eliminated in the third round with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Julia Mongin of Abilene Christian.
The Bronchos also got first-round wins from Lacy Caldwell (6-1, 6-4) and Elizabeta Abramovic (6-4, 6-2) before they were both beaten in the second round. Freshman Anto Rossini was ousted in the opening round.
UCO split its first-round doubles matches, with Caldwell and Rossini teaming up for a 6-3, 6-1 win over Newman before being ousted by Cameron. Abramovic and Shviadok lost their first-round doubles bout.
