EDMOND (Aug. 22) -- Newcomer Zuela Adom had an impressive debut in a Central Oklahoma uniform Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House in leading her team to a decisive victory in the annual Bronze-Blue intrasquad match.

A junior outside hitter who hasn't played since starting most the 2005 season at Houston, Adom had 18 kills and just one error in 35 attacks to pace the Blue to a 25-18, 25-15, 25-20 sweep as the Bronchos previewed the 2009 team.

Sophomore
Alex Richardson, who sat out a redshirt year last season while practicing with the team, added 10 kills for the Blue.  Junior Kristen Wilson, a returning first-team All-Lone Star Conference performer for UCO, led the Bronze with 10 kills.

"We're a lot more athletic in several positions and overall I thought we looked pretty good today," head coach Jeff Boyland said.  "Zuela is a tremendous athlete and it's obvious she's going to have a big impact, but we've got several other new players who are going to help us and we're excited about getting the season started."

Adom had six kills and Richardson five in the first-game win and the Blue hit .450 with 10 kills and only one error in 20 second-game attacks to take control of the match.  The third game went back-and-forth with 13 ties and seven lead changes before the Blue pulled away at the end as Adom had seven kills.

Senior Meaghan Wedberg added five kills, 32 assists, six digs and three assisted blocks for the Blue, while junior Sarah Niles had a match-high 11 digs.  Junior Jessica Legako hit .353 with nine kills, nine digs and two assisted blocks for the Bronze.

UCO opens the season next Thursday against St. Mary's in San Antonio, Texas and then plays three matches the next two days in the St. Mary's Invitational.
