WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Dec. 3) -- Jordan Stark and Kasey Tweed combined for 42 points to lead No. 19-ranked Central Oklahoma to a 78-69 victory over Midwestern State here Thursday night.
Stark was 10-of-14 from the field with three 3-pointers in scoring a season-high 25 points and added a game-high 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots. Tweed made 5-of-8 shots with two treys in finishing with a career-best 17 points.
The Bronchos, who improved to 4-2, are off until going to Abilene Christian on Dec. 19.
"It was a good win for us," UCO coach Guy Hardaker said. "We played really well for stretches, but had some letdowns and we can't afford to do that."
The Bronchos shot 56.0 percent (28-of-50) from the field, including 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from 3-point range in bouncing back from a 30-point loss to Tarleton State two days ago.
UCO also got 11 points and five rebounds from Ashley Beckley, while Cristina Yarbrough had a career high 11 assists -- tied for the sixth-best game in school history -- along with eight points and three steals.
The Bronchos trailed only once, at 3-2 in the opening minutes. Beckley hit a short jumper to put UCO ahead to stay and Tweed converted a three-point play with three seconds left to make it a 36-29 halftime cushion.
It was a three-point lead at 48-45 with 12:37 left to play when the Bronchos went on a 17-5 run to grab a big 65-50 advantage with 6:37 remaining following back-to-back 3-pointers by Stark.
But the Mustangs rallied, using an 18-5 spurt to get within two (70-68) at the 2:02 mark. UCO then finished the game with an 8-1 run, getting a 3-pointer from Alyssa Fuxa, a layup from Rose Anderson, two free throws from Tweed and one from Stark in wrapping up the win.
