EDMOND (Dec. 15) –
A three-minute scoring drought midway through the second half turned the tide and Central Oklahoma never recovered in dropping a frustrating 79-75 decision to Rogers State Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos were up 56-49 after Eric Cazenave hit a 3-pointer with 11:46 left to play, but RSU went on a 9-0 run to surge in front and UCO never regained the lead in losing a rare home outing.

It was only the second loss in the last 30 home games for the Bronchos, who fell to 4-4.  The NAIA-member Hillcats, who went 30-2 last year, improved to 7-4.

“We're just not playing very well right now and got what we deserved,” UCO coach Terry Evans said.   “We're going to continue to struggle until we start playing together as a team.”

Dauntae Williams scored 16 points to lead the Bronchos, who shot just 38.2 percent (26-of-68) from the field and 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from 3-point range.  Tyler Phillips added 13 points, while Brent Friday and Chris Rhymes had 10 apiece.

RSU got a big boost from John Boyd, who dominated play inside with 17 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots in playing his first game after just becoming eligible.

UCO got 3-pointers from Williams and Keith Marks in taking a quick 6-2 lead and the Bronchos pushed the advantage to 13 (36-23) on a three-point play by Rhymes with 5:00 left in the half.

The Hillcats clawed to within 41-38 by intermission and it was 43-42 early in the second half when consecutive layups by Shane Carroll, Friday and Phillips helped push the lead back to 51-43 at the 15:46 mark.

Cazenave's trey still had UCO on top by seven (56-49) at 11:46, but the Bronchos went cold and RSU moved in front.

The Hillcats went on a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 58-56 on two Lance Sullivan free throws with 9:10 remaining and UCO managed only to pull even at 61 and 63 the rest of the way.

It was just a one-point deficit at 68-67 after a Phillips layup with 3:13 left, but RSU sandwiched a pair of buckets around a UCO miss to up its lead to 72-67 at 2:16 and then hit 5-of-6 free throws the rest of the way to keep the Bronchos at bay.

UCO goes on the road for its next four games, starting with a 4 p.m. contest at Abilene Christian on Saturday.
