Rowers Compete At Oklahoma River

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Central Oklahoma had five boats compete in the Boot of the Oklahoma Regatta on the Oklahoma River over the weekend and fared well in each of three races.
The Bronchos had one boat in the Women's Collegiate 8+, two in the Women's Collegiate 4+ and two in the Women's Open 2x.
Twenty boats -- 17 from NCAA Division I programs -- competed in the Women's Collegiate 8+ and the Bronchos finished just 1:53 behind the winner. Making up that unit was Brighton Hutton, Calah Lynes, Jessica Lawson, Katerina Gabrovska, Laura Borkenhagen, Sierra Crook, Brittany Koster and Katie Spaulding, with Rachel Basinger as coxswain.
In Women's Collegiate 4+, UCO had Hutton, Nicole Gibbon, Crook and Spaulding with Christina Cantrell as coxswain in one boat that finished 3:46 off the lead and Stephanie Lay, Sarah Jones, Kristin Philhower and Kasey Bartodej with Lauren Winston as coxswain in a second boat that was 3:57 off the pace. Twenty-nine boats were in that event, 22 of them Division I.
Lynes and Lawson finished 4:13 behind the leader and Borkenhagen and Koster were 6:05 off first place in the Varsity 2x competition that featured 16 boats.
The Bronchos will be in action action Oct. 18-19 at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
