EDMOND (Oct. 17) -- A long-time dominance over Angelo State came to an end for Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House as the Rambelles claimed a four-set Lone Star Conference victory.
The Bronchos had a 14-match winning streak that dated back to 1993 snapped with a 25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 25-20 loss to ASU in falling to 11-13 on the year and 3-5 in the league. The Rambelles improved to 12-12 and 4-3.
"We didn't come out ready to play for whatever reason and it showed," UCO coach Jeff Boyland said. "Angelo took it to us and we didn't respond, which was disappointing."
The Bronchos, who hit just .181 in the match, got 12 kills and four blocks from Zuela Adom and 10 kills from Kristen Wilson.
There were six ties and five lead changes in the first set, with ASU getting the last two points to pull out that hard-earned win. The Rambelles never trailed in the second-set rout and jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the third before UCO rallied.
It was still a 17-14 defict when an Adom kill ignited a 4-0 run that put the Bronchos in front and Wilson had three kills down the stretch to keep UCO in front.
But the Bronchos weren't able to pull off a comeback, making seven attack errors in the fourth set as ASU closed out the match.
UCO ends a three-match homestand Tuesday, hosting Newman at 7 p.m.
