EDMOND (Oct. 15) –
Madi Serratt finished off a fantastic fourth-set rally that kept Central Oklahoma alive, but the Bronchos fell short in the end against Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian Thursday night at Hamilton Field House.

Serratt had the final two kills to cap a frantic comeback in a thrilling 26-24 win, with the Wildcats bouncing back to take the fifth set in staving off UCO's upset bid, 25-21, 23-25, 25-14, 24-26, 15-10.

It was the fifth five-set loss of the season for the Bronchos, who fell to 11-12 overall and 3-4 in the league.  ACU improved to 18-5 and 5-1 with its eighth straight win.

“We fought really hard and had a chance to steal one,” UCO coach Jeff Boyland said. “ I was proud of the way we stayed in there and battled, but we've got to find a way to win those matches.”

Zuela Adom hit .438 with a career-high 18 kills and just four errors in 32 attacks and Serratt hit .382 with a career-best 16 kills and only three errors in 34 attacks to lead the Bronchos.

UCO also got 13 kills and 11 digs from Kristen Wilson along with 10 kills and three blocks from Courtney WhitlowMeaghan Wedberg added 46 assists, 15 digs and three blocks.

The Bronchos had a 15-14 lead in the first set before ACU went on a 4-0 run en route to that win, but UCO came back to take a back-and-forth second set that ended on Adom's emphatic kill at the net.

The Wildcats dominated in the third-set rout and were on the verge of closing out the match after grabbing a 23-16 lead in the fourth before UCO rallied.

Wilson had two kills in a six-point run that made it 23-22 before ACU got another point to go up 24-22.  Whitlow had a kill and then teamed with Serratt for a block that drew the Bronchos even at 24-all, with Serratt getting back-to-back kills off Wedberg sets to end the comeback.

UCO led 1-0 and 2-1 in the deciding set, but the Wildcats soon surged in front and went on to close out the match.

The Bronchos return to league action Saturday, hosting Angelo State at 2 p.m.
