EDMOND (Jan. 24) – Career-best outings by Lance Harper and Michael Sosanya powered No. 3-ranked Central Oklahoma to its seventh straight win Saturday night at Hamilton Field House as the Bronchos got past Southeastern Oklahoma 83-73.
Harper scored 28 points and Sosanya added 25 for UCO, which stretched its home winning streak to 23 in a row in improving to 17-2 overall and 4-0 in the Lone Star Conference North Division. The Savage Storm fell to 3-15 and 0-3.
“It wasn't a real pretty game, but we did what we needed to do,” UCO coach Terry Evans said. “Lance and Mike both played great and really carried us tonight.”
Harper hit 12-of-18 shots and 4-of-6 free throws in his 28-point outing and he also pulled down 11 rebounds and had three steals in 26 minutes of action. Sosanya was 10-of-17 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line in his 25-point performance to go with three rebounds and two blocked shots.
Those were the only two players in double figures for the Bronchos, who committed a season-low 11 turnovers.
The game went back-and-forth in the early going with eight lead changes and seven ties before UCO went ahead for good on a Sosanya layup with 3:45 left in the half that made it 34-33 en route to a 39-36 halftime advantage.
David Thomas opened the second half with a layup and Harper followed with a dunk off an Eric Cazenave pass to go ahead 43-36, but the Savage Storm got within one (47-46) with 15:25 left to play.
The Bronchos answered back with a 13-2 run to build a 12-point cushion at 60-48 with 11:34 left as Shane Carroll had a pair of buckets and Harper two layups and a resounding one-hand slam after a steal.
UCO led by as many as 15 the rest of the way in closing out the win.
