EDMOND (Aug. 14) – Three teams in the preseason American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll dot the Central Oklahoma schedule, including the first two opponents of the season.

The Bronchos open the 2008 campaign on Aug. 30 against No. 17 Pittsburg State before taking on 10th-ranked and three-time defending Lone Star Conference champion West Texas A&M on Sept. 6. Both games are at Wantland Stadium.

UCO meets No. 18 Texas A&M-Commerce in its LSC North Division opener on Sept. 27, also at home. Two other teams on the schedule received votes in the preseason poll – Southeastern Oklahoma (Oct. 11 in Edmond) and Midwestern State (Oct. 25 in Edmond).  Click here for the complete poll.

The Bronchos continue preparing for the season-opener that is just over two weeks away, with two practices set for Thursday and one Friday. UCO will hold its final major intrasquad scrimmage are 6 p.m. Saturday at Wantland Stadium.

“It’s going along pretty good, but we’re pretty banged up right now,” first-year head coach Tracy Holland said. “Hopefully we’ll start getting some guys healthy and back on the practice field. The attitude of the players has been awesome and we’re making progress.”
