Rowing's Debut Is No. 7
Rowing

Central Oklahoma unveiled its newest sport in 2008, with the women's rowing program making its debut during the fall after spending the previous year getting geared up to start.

That new beginning ranks as the No. 7 story for UCO athletics in 2008 as we continue our look back at the top 10 stories of the year.

Rowing was announced as the school's 13th varsity sport in the summer of 2007, but UCO didn't compete in its first official event until this fall when the Bronchos participated in the prestigious Head of the Oklahoma Regatta on the Oklahoma River in downtown Oklahoma City on Oct. 4.

UCO went to two other events during the fall and will have a full schedule in the spring of 2009.

“It has been a long wait to take part in our official inaugural race as a Division II varsity rowing program,” head coach Pat Brown said prior to UCO's first competition. “As a brand new team at UCO, it’s great to see how far we've come in a short amount of time.”
