WEATHERFORD, Okla. (Oct. 31) -- A Halloween match-up with Southwestern Oklahoma was a sweet treat for Central Oklahoma here Friday as the Bronchos strolled to a 7-1 drubbing of the Bulldogs in the regular season finale.
The lopsided win clinched a berth in the Lone Star Conference Tournament for UCO, which improved to 12-5-3 on the year in finishing 6-3-1 in league play. Texas A&M-Commerce and West Texas A&M are still battling for the regular-season conference title and the right to host the six-team LSC Tournament, which will be held next week.
Meghan Saliba led the Bronchos Friday, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes as UCO bolted to a 6-0 lead just 29 minutes into the mismatch before coasting in.
"We came out really focused today and were on the attack from the start," UCO coach Mike Cook said. "It was good to see us finish the way we did today and we didn't let them get anything going until we had the game in hand."
Saliba scored just 1:52 into the contest on a shot from the left corner and she made it 2-0 at the 6:56 mark off the first of three assists by Stephanie Lovely. Katy Kashwer knocked in a shot from close range just 27 seconds later to up the lead to 3-0 and the onslaught continued barely a minute later when Jenny Racicot scored an unassisted goal
Whitney Craft pushed UCO's advantage to 5-0 in the 24th minute and Kayla Wright gave the Bronchos a 6-0 halftime lead with a penalty shot at the 28:44 mark.
Kashwer scored her second goal of the game in the 48th minute to make it 7-0 and it stayed that way until the Bulldogs got their lone goal with six minutes left to play.
Josie Baker and Megan Riley shared time in goal for the Bronchos, who outshot SWOSU 37-13.
