LAWTON, Okla. (March 21) ? A five-game winning streak came to a crashing halt for Central Oklahoma here Friday as Cameron swept a Lone Star Conference doubleheader from the Bronchos at McCord Field.
UCO gave up 17 hits in dropping a 10-3 first-game decision, then managed just five hits in losing the nightcap 7-3 to fall to 22-9 on the season and 14-8 in league play.
The Bronchos, who edged CU 19-17 in Edmond on Thursday, host the Aggies for a single nine-inning contest at 2 p.m. Saturday to end the four-game series.
“We couldn't get them out in the first game and our bats let us down in the second,” UCO coach Wendell Simmons said. “Cameron's got a pretty good ball club and we just didn't play well enough to win.”
The Bronchos had 10 hits in the opener but led only once, at 1-0 after their initial at bat. CU came back with four runs in the bottom of the first, made it 7-1 in the third and was never threatened while banging out 17 hits against five UCO pitchers.
Miguel Moctezuma gave the Bronchos their brief lead with a solo home run in the first and the Bronchos got their other two runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Tyler Carroll and Dean McIntyre.
Carroll led UCO's 10-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance, while Moctezuma had a pair of hits.
The Aggies took a 3-0 lead after two innings of the second game and the Bronchos didn't get on the scoreboard until they tied it with a three-run outburst in the fifth.
Michael Pollock had a two-run double and Moctezuma a sacrifice fly in that inning as UCO drew even, but the Aggies came back with two runs in the bottom of that frame to take a 5-3 lead and added two insurance runs in the sixth.
